Why use Summit Combs?
Summit has been producing gorgeous honey combs for seventy years. (Starting in Pennsylvania in the 1940s!)
In the past, we made combs in basswood boxes, the Hogg Half-Section, the old Cobana/Visicheck/Ross Round sections, and the Pohl Round Section.
We like the round system, which actually dates back to the late 1880s. At that time, glass rings were cut and placed into the hive in a way similar to what we do today with plastic. But all these systems have one big problem - they require a full, odd-sized super. We wanted to build a frame that could be dropped into a normal hive without modifications and without needing 8 or 10 comb honey frames. Wouldn't it be great if the beekeeper could make a single frame or two of nice-looking, easy to package comb honey?
We created a simple, practical solution in the Summit Comb Honey System. Sold by the frame, one at a time. Each frame fits perfectly into a standard deep super and makes 8 section combs of honey. The frame is reuseable season after season. The honey is produced in the container that goes to your customer. You can sell your 8 combs for $5 to $10 each - up to $80 of honey from one frame.
